3rd Annual Scholarship Fundraiser Success

This year we hosted a 5K Race and raised $14,000 in scholarships for seven of our students from H. Grady Spruce, Hillcrest, Irma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership Academy, and Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy! Thank you for your generous contributions and support as we help these students achieve their educational dreams.

Primos are Latino professionals ready to serve the community.

Primos are dedicated to sharing their knowledge and skills with young Latinos.

Primos are a resource to families, schools, churches, and the greater community.

Primos are an
of family.

Our mission is to guide and motivate young people to become college, career, and life ready by providing them with the tools to develop self-efficacy, a growth mindset, and a commitment to service.

Our vision is to create a community of young Latinos ready to impact the world.

Educational statistics among Latinos are improving but we still have a way to go.

Primos know what it takes to successfully navigate the educational system. Primos are eager to share their knowledge and experiences with young Latinos to ensure they can take advantage of the opportunities they may not know are within their reach.

Primos At A Glance

What Does A Primo Do?

Primos will form a relationship with their mentees and be a go-to source for them when they need guidance. Issues can range from questions on homework to how to deal with an annoying sibling.

Primos will share their knowledge and experiences with their young primo and let them know they have their back.

Mentors are a reliable, constant presence in the lives of their mentees.

Think of Primos as an extension of family.

What If I've Never Been A Mentor?

Not a problem!

We will provide ample training to get you ready to be a mentor.

Several of our founders are educators who have vast mentoring experience to share.

We have created a 12 month curriculum to help guide you and your young Primo.

We will provide on-going support and a school liaison to ensure your success as a Primo.

How Much Of A Time Commitment Are We Talking?

We require commitmemt for the full school year (Sept – June).

Primos will have monthly face to face meetings with their young Primos and keep in touch with them in between via their preferred method of communcation (texts, facetime, phone calls, email, etc.).

Who Are The Young Primos?

Young Primos are DISD students that are excelling but need guidance; are passionate but limited by circumstances; need that extra push to think big and reach their full potential.

We are focused on the Pleasant Grove area in Southeast Dallas and will be serving high school students this year.

Our partner schools include H. Grady Spruce, Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy and Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School.

Do I Get To Choose My Young Primo?

Not exactly…We want our young Primos to have a sense of ownership and be invested in our program.

Therefore, we are giving them the power to choose!

We will match each student with 3 prospective mentors (based on their personalities, interests, background) and they will select one Primo to meet and gauge mutual compatibility. Learn more about our pairing process.
